Rupert Murdoch read economics at Oxford and his first job was running the Adelaide paper The News, which he inherited from his father. He quickly established himself as the most dynamic newspaper proprietor in the country, acquiring a string of titles, before branching out worldwide in the 1960s to acquire titles in London and New York. Today he is the controlling shareholder, chairman and managing director of News Corporation, with assets worldwide in television, film, media and the internet.
