James Murdoch

James Murdoch (News Corp)

James Murdoch is the fourth of Rupert Murdoch's six children. He studied in Rome and even considered becoming an archaeologist before signing up for Harvard. At the age of twenty-seven, James Murdoch moved to Hong Kong to take control of News Corp's ailing Asian satellite service, Star TV. It was losing £100 million a year but was turned around to make a modest profit, thanks to new channels and distribution deals with China, Taiwan and India. It has become a major source of profit growth for News Corporation, which in 2011 is set to deliver its highest annual profit ever. In 2003, James became chief executive of BSkyB and moved up to become chairman and chief executive of Europe and Asia for News Corporation in 2007. In March 2011, he was appointed deputy chief operating officer, and chairman and CEO, international, News Corporation.
