Archie Norman
Archie Norman (Aurigo)Educated at Charterhouse School and Cambridge University, Archie Norman began his business career at McKinsey & Co. Archie was a member of a three strong team that established and built Kingfisher plc in the 1980s to become Britain's leading general merchandise retailer. In 1991, he took over as chief executive of Asda and together with Allan Leighton lead the turnaround which, over eight years, transformed the business into the second largest supermarket group before being sold to Wal-Mart for an eight times multiple of the starting share price. Archie has also led the turnaround of Britain's third largest telecoms business Energis and Australian supermarket group Coles. He also served for eight years as a member of parliament, including as chief executive of the conservative party and as a leading member of the shadow cabinet. Archie took over as chairman of ITV in January 2010 to recruit a new leadership team under Adam Crozier to lead a five-year transformation programme.
