Marcus Agius (Barclays Bank)
Marcus Agius trained as a mechanical engineer at Cambridge, but spent
over thirty years of his working life at top-drawer independent bank
Lazards, rising to become chairman in London, before leaving to
become chairman of Barclays in January 2007. He has been dubbed
the ‘quintessential English banker’ and at Lazards was credited with
bringing in some of the biggest deals of the day, working closely with
Pearson, HBOS, Next and BSkyB, among others.
